The Last Utopia of Roberto Rossellini

“Science” is the title that should have had one of the latest unpublished works by director Roberto Rossellini. Conceived as a documentary for television, the goal was to bring the public closer to the scientific disciplines that too often are aimed at a selected audience. However, only the first chapter entitled “Rice University” was completed, with a series of talks between Rossellini and scientists from the famous Houston campus (Texas, USA), the beating heart of scientific discoveries between the 1960s and 1970s.

In 2015 Margherita Moro, thanks to a research period spent in the archives of The Menil Collection in Houston, analyzed this work, interviewing some figures who took part in the project, including Renzo Rossellini, Silvia d’Amico, Beppe Cino and Claudio Bondì, Rossellini’s collaborators in the last years of his career. From this research, Margherita Moro developed and directed a documentary lasting about 45 minutes and entitled “The Last Utopia by Roberto Rossellini”.
