The Science of Vision. Photography and optical instruments at the time of Maximilian of Habsburg

At Miramare Castle, from the 2nd of June to the 13th of November, visitors will find the exhibition The Science of Vision. Photography and optical instruments at the time of Maximilian of Habsburg. Central piece of the exhibition is the megaletoscope, an instrument designed around 1860 to observe photographic prints applying various light effects.

Visitors will experience a simulation of the effect of the visor, thanks to a special installation in which the ‘daytime’ and ‘night-time’ effects of the megaletoscope will be applied to original prints, restored for the occasion.

The exhibition is set up in the former Projects Room of the Castle, recently renovated to host temporary exhibitions, and is included in the ticket to the Historical Museum and Park of the Castle of Miramare. The opening hours are the same as the Museum: from Monday to Friday 2.00 pm – 7.00 pm, Saturday and Sunday 9.00 am – 7.00 pm.
