Antarctic meteorites: a treasure for planetary sciences

Since 1969 over fifty thousand meteorite samples have been collected in the antartic ice sheet. A precious treasure for the study of our solar system, retrieved in various expeditions organized by countries all over the world, including Italy with the National Program for Antarctic Research (PNRA).
These scientific enterprises will be the theme of the conference Antarctic meteorites: a treasure for the planetary sciences, which will take place on the 2nd of October 2020 from 5:00 pm to 6:30 pm at Magazzino delle Idee, as part of the cycle of conferences associated with the exhibition XTREME: Life in Extreme Environments.

Prof. Luigi Folco, from Università degli Studi di Pisa, will present the importance of these lunar, martian and asteroidal meteorites in the advancement of planetary sciences, in particular for the study of the origin and evolution of the solar system. Prof. Ester Colizza (Università degli Studi di Trieste), director of the Trieste branch of the Museo Nazionale dell’Antartide “Felice Ippolito” will moderate the conference.
