Discovering a 19th Century Residence. Economo Palace
Palazzo Economo, historic nineteenth-century residence in the centre of Trieste, will be exceptionally open to the public for one night thanks to MiBACT FVG, Segretariato regionale, Soprintendenza Archeologia, Belle Arti e Paesaggio and Direzione regionale musei, which have in the palace their regional offices.
The Palace, built between 1885 and 1887, was the residence of the Economo family for many years. The Economo were an important family of merchants and entrepreneurs of Greek origin, who moved to Trieste in the second half of the 19th century.
The palace will open to the public, by reservation, on the 3rd of September for three guided tours at 6.30 pm, 7.30 pm (in English) and 8.30 pm. Visitors will admire the atrium, the monumental staircase, the Piedmontese Hall and also the Cycle of Progress, a series of eight canvasses painted by famous artists from Trieste for a city café at the end of the nineteenth-century.
