Spazio filatelia, Palazzo delle Poste
Earthquake! Terremoto! Potres!
A philatelic exhibition on earthquakes is on display at the “Spazio filatelia” (Philatelic Area) of the main office of Poste Italiane (Italian mail service) in Trieste. The exhibition illustrates the topic through postal material: stamps, postmarks, stationery and more.
The exhibit is structured in 9 sections:
1. Causes of the earthquake; 2. Seismic waves; 3. Seismic stations; 4. Effects of the earthquake; 5. Rescue operations; 6. Collection of seismic data; 7. Solidarity and reconstruction; 8. Big earthquakes of the past; 9. The study of earthquakes.
The author of the collection is prof. Peter Suhadolc, president of the Slovenian Philatelic Club “Lovrenc Košir” in Trieste, former professor of Geophysics and Seismology at the University of Trieste and former Secretary General of the International Association of Seismology and Physics of the Earth Interior (IASPEI). A lecture on the earthquake to illustrate the exhibition is scheduled for the opening day, which will be on Tuesday, 1st September.
