Trieste 2020 Science Greeters: A group of youth guides us to discover the scientific, historical and cultural development of Trieste
How was the scientific system of Trieste created and how has it evolved since then? What role does the Port plays in the development of commercial traffic with Europe and the rest of the world? What was the influence of James Joyce on the city’s cultural and literary ecosystem? How much has Basaglia’s thinking influenced the modern conception of mental health? These are just some of the themes at the center of Trieste 2020 Science Greeters, a project conceived by Fondazione Pietro Pittini in collaboration with Fondazione Internazionale Trieste per il Progresso e la Libertà delle Scienze and the University of Trieste in the context of the Science in the City Festival.
The project, through the direct involvement of a trained group of university students, aims to introduce to the places – often located outside traditional routes – that have marked the scientific, as well as the historical and cultural development of Trieste. Through the creation of video clips Pietro Pittini Foundation wants to contribute to the promotion and enhancement of the territory and its institutions, while promoting the direct participation and involvement of young people in practical activities that can increase both specific and soft skills.
The bodies involved in the project and presented in the videos are: Autorità di Sistema Portuale del Mare Adriatico Orientale – Porti di Trieste e Monfalcone, Grotta Gigante, La Collina Cooperativa Sociale, International Centre for Theoretical Physics (ICTP), INAF – Astronomical Observatory of Trieste, Scuola Internazionale Superiore di Studi Avanzati (SISSA) e University of Trieste.
